I recently took a quick weekend trip to Chicago to attend a friend’s engagement party. As soon as I found out I would be taking this trip, I mapped out all of the yummy foods I would try when I got there. First up on my list was (you guessed it) deep dish pizza.
Now, I’m going to be honest with you and admit that I planned to forgo my normal rules and eat that deep dish whether it was gluten free or not. Lucky for me, Lou Malnati’s serves up a delicious gluten free pizza so I got to have my pizza and eat it too!
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this gluten free deep dish pizza. Sometimes, gluten free pizza crusts can be a little odd. That was not the case here. This gluten free pizza was delicious! The sauce is what made the pizza for me. I could drink that sauce for dinner and be happy.
Lou Malnati’s calls this a thin crust gluten free pizza, but it wasn’t your typical thin crust (imho). I’m a New York girl so when I hear thin crust, I expect a paper thin crust. Don’t get me wrong. I was not disappointed in the least. The portion was enough to feed two people and it was absolutely yummy.
Here is the original deep dish for comparison.
I would definitely eat at Lou Malnati’s again no question. I may even be tempted to order one of their pizzas via mail order…yes they deliver nationwide!
